This week Eagles had the opportunity to visit the Shah Jalal Jame Mosque in Easton, Bristol. We were met by Riz, who showed us around the mosque and talked with us about many different parts of the Islamic faith. We learnt so many interesting facts, including that the Masjid al-Haram Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia can hold around 2-3 million people and is the same size as Wales! We had lots of questions which Riz was happy to answer for us. We even got to had a look around Mecca with a pair of VR goggles and a 3D video taken by Riz on his last pilgrimage. Overall, it was a really positive experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

They were asked to bring their sketchbooks, pens and some torches to help record the ancient artefacts. There were even some books left to find out more about this ancient civilisation.

Last Thursday the whole school became ‘Curious Linguists’, and spent the day learning about another country from around the world. Eagles class looked at Japan, and did activities like; writing postcards, origami cranes, learning how to count in Japanese, using drawing inks to write the Japanese numbers, and making sushi! We also had a visitor who has been to Japan, and they brought in so many interesting things for us to look at. We saw how their books and comics are read in the opposite direction to how we read ours, and had lots of questions to ask.

This launches our new languages approach for the year ahead.
