As part of the feedback given during our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions at the end of the last school year, here are some helpful posters (which are also on display in our classroom) that explain the vocabulary we use in our phonics lessons. We’ve also included the other vocabulary we use during lessons.   Common exception words / tricky words: words that are sight read and cannot be phonetically sounded (poster attached) Blend: saying all of the sounds of the word together Segment: separating out the different sounds in the word   If you’re having trouble using, saying or helping your child practise the sounds at home for both phonics and spellings, Geraldine the Giraffe (created by Mr Thorne) is a great YouTube series that may help: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7sW4j8p7k9D_qRRMUsGqyw     If you have any further questions or queries about phonics, please get in touch. Thanks, Miss Abley

Outdoor learning day was a huge success for Falcons class. For English, we read ‘Leaf Man’ and then had a go at making our own leaf animals. For maths, we used sticks and leaves as tens and ones to help us calculate addition and subtraction. Then in the afternoon we had PE, in which we are learning how to play cricket. We finished with geography, by devising a map of our school grounds.
