During our learning about the Ancient Egyptians, we discovered the mummification process. We were so fascinated (and a little disgusted) that we wanted to try out the process ourselves! After scooping out the ‘guts’ of the orange and drying it out with paper towels, we used a mixture of bicarbonate of soda and salt to make natron and added cinnamon and cloves. We then wrapped our oranges tightly in bandages and left them in a warm dry place. The photos show the the unwrapping and results!

As part of our learning for STEM Week, Eagles class took on a design challenge to create new souvenirs for the Egyptians Exhibit at the Bristol Museum. They were put into teams and given a brief to follow. They created their own logos for their team and collaborated to create a range of t-shirts and key rings. Lastly, they presented their work to the rest of the class with interesting and exciting product descriptions. As you can see, the results are fabulous! Well done Eagles!

As part of our topic about the Ancient Egyptians, Eagles class went to Bristol Museum to explore their exhibition and do a workshop with the staff there. We learnt more about the life and afterlife of Egyptians, and got to see real life artefacts from the time period. During our workshop we learnt about a lady called Amelia Edwards, an Egyptologist from Bristol. We got to handle real life artefacts alongside replicas and had to work out which region of Egypt they belonged to. We all had a fantastic day and are looking forward to learning some more about the Ancient Egyptians over the rest of the term!

This week Eagles had the opportunity to visit the Shah Jalal Jame Mosque in Easton, Bristol. We were met by Riz, who showed us around the mosque and talked with us about many different parts of the Islamic faith. We learnt so many interesting facts, including that the Masjid al-Haram Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia can hold around 2-3 million people and is the same size as Wales! We had lots of questions which Riz was happy to answer for us. We even got to had a look around Mecca with a pair of VR goggles and a 3D video taken by Riz on his last pilgrimage. Overall, it was a really positive experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
