As part of the feedback given during our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions at the end of the last school year, here are some helpful posters (which are also on display in our classroom) that explain the vocabulary we use in our phonics lessons. We’ve also included the other vocabulary we use during lessons.
Common exception words / tricky words: words that are sight read and cannot be phonetically sounded (poster attached)
Blend: saying all of the sounds of the word together
Segment: separating out the different sounds in the word
