Four children from years 3 and 4 competed in a regional tennis competition after their successful qualification tournament. A few weeks ago they competed against other schools from South Gloucestershire, and after winning all their matches, they progressed to the regional finals held at the University of Bristol. There were 10 teams in the finals, from South Gloucestershire, North Sommerset, Bristol and BANES, and Team Iron Acton fought off all the competition to win the gold medal! The standard was very high which makes this achievement all the more impressive. Congratulations to Ruben, Rosie, William and Lucy. Well done!

Falcons class went to visit the Roman Fortress and Baths at Caerleon this week to enrich our learning on our current topic. We visited the baths and discovered how the Romans used them for hygiene, exercise and relaxation. They even had under-floor heating! We then experienced a day in the life of a Roman child, including the learning of Roman numerals and some Latin words. Finally we visited the amphitheatre and barrack remains. We even saw the remains of a communal toilet!

Iron Acton played the first tag rugby match of the season against our partnership school, and arch rivals, Hawkesbury Upton. The children worked incredibly hard on a dark, cold December afternoon and came away with their heads held high, losing by just a few tries. The try of the match came from Theo, as he finished off a fine Iron Acton spell of possession at the start of the second half. Well done to all the children involved and thank you to the parents who came along to show your support. We look forward to more sports events after the Christmas break.

Falcons class rocked our socks off this afternoon by performing to the whole school and parents. Since September, the children have been learning to play different notes and chords which they have used to play and sing a variety of songs on the ukulele. Some children even performed on the double bass. Songs included hits by Status Quo, The Jackson 5 and even Spongebob Squarepants! Thank you to Mr Davis for coming in to teach the children, and thank you to all the parents who came to watch.
