Remote learning at Iron Acton

Our school strives to provide high quality teaching to all children in person on a daily basis. In exceptional circumstances and only ever as a last resort, it may be necessary to provide remote learning in its place. This may be in response to Government guidance which results in school closures or in individual cases when the alternative would be no education.

When required, remote learning will include a combination of the following:

  1. Live online teaching with a teacher or teaching assistant.
  2. Pre-recorded learning with a teacher or teaching assistant which can be watched at any time.
  3. Written recommendations of learning and activities that can be carried out with support from an adult at home.
  4. Signposting to specific learning through external providers, such as Oak National Academy.

All remote learning will aim to be high quality, meaningful, ambitious, specific to the age and stage of the children’s development and cover an appropriate range of subjects to enable pupils to keep on track with their education.

Provision through remote learning will consider the following:

  • Readily accessible to children as soon as reasonably practicable.
  • Equivalent in length to core teaching the child would receive in school where possible.
  • Age, stage of development and independent study skills.
  • Special educational needs.
  • Suitable spaces to work in the home environment.
  • An appropriate balance of screen time, ensuring adequate breaks are provided for adults and children.
  • Barriers to digital access.
  • Significant demands on parent/carer ability to provide support, e.g. younger children.

The school will use Google Classroom as a digital education platform for any online teaching and learning.

Keeping children safe online is essential. The school’ child protection provides more information about how the school works to keep children safe whilst online.
