We had a fantastic time when Travelling Kitchen came to visit, bringing lots of delicious recipes (which can be found on this blog) with them. We practised a whole range of cooking skills, and learnt plenty about the Mayans and the foods they used to cook and eat. One of our favourite parts was the hot drinking chocolate – perfect for wintry weather!

This week, Eagles class participated in the K’NEX Challenge 2018. An event run by STEM Works and sponsored by Renishaw, it aims to introduce children into the world of engineering through a problem solving challenge. There were so many creative, innovative and fantastic ideas that our visitor from STEM Works had a truly difficult time choosing! She was thoroughly impressed with the attitude and engagement of all the children. From this heat, Owen and Finley were invited to go and compete on behalf of the school at another challenge event in May. We wish them the best of luck!

Iron Acton played the first tag rugby match of the season against our partnership school, and arch rivals, Hawkesbury Upton. The children worked incredibly hard on a dark, cold December afternoon and came away with their heads held high, losing by just a few tries. The try of the match came from Theo, as he finished off a fine Iron Acton spell of possession at the start of the second half. Well done to all the children involved and thank you to the parents who came along to show your support. We look forward to more sports events after the Christmas break.

Falcons class rocked our socks off this afternoon by performing to the whole school and parents. Since September, the children have been learning to play different notes and chords which they have used to play and sing a variety of songs on the ukulele. Some children even performed on the double bass. Songs included hits by Status Quo, The Jackson 5 and even Spongebob Squarepants! Thank you to Mr Davis for coming in to teach the children, and thank you to all the parents who came to watch.

During Anti-Bullying Week, Eagles and Golden Eagles teamed up with the pupils at our partnership school in Hawkesbury for an assembly run by Unique Voice. We discussed the different types of bullying that can happen, why bullying may start, and how we can resolve it. Then we got the chance to get to know each other a little better through a fact finding game, discovering each others hidden talents – there were even a couple of people that could eat with chopsticks! We had a great morning, and are looking forward to seeing our new friends at Hawkesbury again soon.
