Last Friday Kestrel class went on their trip to Blaise Castle House Museum. We had lovely weather on the day so we had a chance to play in the park before we went into the museum. It was a lot of fun! Inside the museum, we met a lady called Jo, who asked us to dress up in Victorian clothing as we prepared to play with some old fashioned toys. We got to play with some of the toys as well as making our own. After lunch we got to explore upstairs in the museum and played with old card games, puppets and illusion toys. We learnt lots about the materials toys used to be made out of and how children used to have fun with them. Here are some photographs of our day…

We A massive well done to all of the children (and staff!!) for making such an effort during poetry week. We had a great time during our celebration assembly last Friday, sharing all of the amazing learning that had been going on across the school. There were some lovely caterpillars made by reception, some fab innovated poetry by Year 1 and Falcons did an amazing job of reciting and acting out some poetry with a real comical twist! The older children also shared poems that they had been reading about the rainforest and Year 6 shared their very own published poetry. Well done Iron Acton!

Last weekend, Year 1 children (and Louis!) represented the school at the Bradley Stoke Year 1 Football Festival. We had to play four matches against lots of different schools and our team were fantastic! The children played with real skill and enthusiasm and showed great sportsmanship towards the other teams. Mrs Page was extremely proud of our performance and we won an enormous trophy to put on display in the school hall. We all got presented with a medal and a goody bag at the end of the day and we got to have our photo taken with our trophy…

Wow!! Kestrel class have certainly outdone themselves this term… We were so impressed by the incredible efforts every single child went to, to complete their home learning task this term. A massive thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and other supporting adults for helping the children get really stuck into this project – we really hope it has been as much fun to complete as it has been for us to discuss the work with the children! The results of all of the children’s time, imagination and hard work are plain to see in the pictures below:

Kestrel Class put on an amazing show of ‘Shine Star Shine!’ at Christmas, to tell the Nativity story. We rehearsed for weeks and weeks, learning our lines and practicing the songs and all of the hard work paid off… We performed at our local village church and shared some of our delicious homemade mince pies with the audience – yum yum! Didn’t we look great in our costumes?

We were really lucky to have the opportunity to visit Bristol Airport back in April… We spent the morning watching the airplanes taking off and landing and using tracking apps on our iPads to plot their locations on our maps. We even got to talk to some pilots about what it is like to fly an airplane. Afterwards, we spent the afternoon watching the planes whilst having a picnic in the sunshine from Felton Common. Take a look at the photos of the day…

Over the past few weeks during our ‘minibeasts’ topic, we have been listening to the Disney song ‘The Ugly Bug Ball’… We have learnt the words (it is actually a very tricky song to sing!) and made up some actions to create our very own dance! This is the song – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pho7JPTa8P4 Have a practise at home if you like… It has been so much fun – watch this space for a video of our dance once it is completed!
