Year 4 have been finding out more about the importance of Advent today. They visited Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church where they took part in a range of activities.

On Friday we had our annual Christingle service at school led by a team from St James’ Church in the village. The children were reminded about the important meaning of Christmas.

Our Christmas fair is tomorrow! Come along to the village hall between 2pm and 4pm. There will be lots of stalls, food, craft activities and more. We may even have a visit from a special guest! Children will be singing with the community choir at 3pm.

At Iron Acton School, we are looking forward to the next 3 weeks which will be filled with many exciting Christmas events. Our youngest children will be taking part in retelling the Nativity story at church and have been working hard to prepare. All children are invited to sing Christmas carols at the joint school – church Christmas fair next Saturday. We will be having our Christingle service led by the church this Friday and we have Christmas lunch and parties to look forward to.

At Iron Acton, we try to consistently challenge ourselves and be purple learners. To learn more about the learning happening across the school, 10 children have been working with Mrs Pardoe to set up our Learning Detective team. These pupils will get the opportunity to observe around the school, and feedback to staff about what is working well, and how we can improve our learning skills. We look forward to seeing what the Learning Detectives find in their investigations!

Three of our pupils were keen to show off the frog they found in the school grounds after school yesterday. Last week we found two baby stoats. Great to see wildlife flourishing here at Iron Acton and our pupils taking such a keen interest.

Four children from years 3 and 4 competed in a regional tennis competition after their successful qualification tournament. A few weeks ago they competed against other schools from South Gloucestershire, and after winning all their matches, they progressed to the regional finals held at the University of Bristol. There were 10 teams in the finals, from South Gloucestershire, North Sommerset, Bristol and BANES, and Team Iron Acton fought off all the competition to win the gold medal! The standard was very high which makes this achievement all the more impressive. Congratulations to Ruben, Rosie, William and Lucy. Well done!

Children in years 3 and 4 had a fantastic afternoon of sport in the sunshine yesterday. The event was run by the year 9 sports leaders at Brimsham Green Secondary School. The children got to try out a variety of different sports, including football, rugby, athletics, basketball and badminton.

Falcons class made our own erupting volcanoes in science yesterday, by mixing an acid and an alkaline to create a chemical reaction! This really brought our volcanoes topic to life!
