The Year 6’s visited Yate Methodist Church last week to complete their Regenerate sessions along with children from Rangeworthy Primary and North Road Primary School. It was a great opportunity for the children to meet other children who are in the same position of transition and hopefully they made some new friends ready for next September. Thank you to Les and Joy for all their words of advice and work with the school over the year. !

Earlier this month, the Year 6’s ventured out to Govilon, South Wales to embark on their Year 6 camp. For three nights and four days, the trepid, young explorers took part in a number of gruelling character-testing activities which included an epic hill walk on Blorenge, swimming, Canoeing 6 miles along the River Usk, ten-pin bowling, Waterfalls and steam diving, caving as well as a trip to Raglan Castle. The children were incredible all weekend, not only by pushing themselves with the activities and overcoming their fears, but were superb in behaviour. There was plenty of laughs, singing, good food, lovely company and we even managed to get Mrs Page soaking wet! Thank you to Mrs Page for being a good sport all weekend, thank you also to all the instructors and cooks for making our weekend truly unforgettable!

The Parish Hall played host to Iron Acton Primary School’s end of year performance of ‘The Pirates of the Curry Bean’ earlier this term. Family and friends, as well as the rest of the school were treated to a excellent rendition of the play from our Year 6’s with support from Year 4’s and 5’s. There were tears, gaffs and plenty of laughs throughout the performance and we hope everyone who came enjoyed the show. The children have thoroughly enjoyed practising the play including songs and dances and we are all immensely proud of their hard work and effort! Thanks to Miss Mallet and Mrs Pilgrim for their much needed help. Thanks also to parents for their support in helping children learning their lines as well as props and costumes. Final thanks to our friends at the Parish Hall for letting us use their hall!

We A massive well done to all of the children (and staff!!) for making such an effort during poetry week. We had a great time during our celebration assembly last Friday, sharing all of the amazing learning that had been going on across the school. There were some lovely caterpillars made by reception, some fab innovated poetry by Year 1 and Falcons did an amazing job of reciting and acting out some poetry with a real comical twist! The older children also shared poems that they had been reading about the rainforest and Year 6 shared their very own published poetry. Well done Iron Acton!

It has been a fantastic Health Week this year and we have really enjoyed the opportunity to sample a wide-range of exciting activities, including: Cycling Proficiency, Frisbee, Tennis and Tae Kwon Do! We have also taken part in daily activities such as ‘Wake and Shake’ to get us going in the mornings  and the Daily Mile, where we have all pushed ourselves to go further the following day. We’ve also learnt more about sugar, eating a healthy diet and the importance of hydration. Thank you to all the instructors, teachers and helpers who have helped to organise and run these events  – as you can see, we have thoroughly enjoyed taking part and certainly feel a lot fitter from doing so.

To kick off Health Week this year, we had a tasty look at world foods with thanks to the lovely chefs at The Travelling Kitchen. Together we helped to make a scrumptious Caribbean-style black bean and sweet potato curry as well as Greek filo parcels filled with feta, dill and spinach. The children loved getting stuck in and cooked up a storm in the kitchen so much so there were tears – only through cutting onions mind. At the end of the day we all shared our creations with parents and the rest of the school, which proved to be very popular! As a treat for working so hard and acing their SATs, the Year 6’s went to the park in Iron Acton to enjoy the summer sunshine and have a break from work and play rehearsals! The sun was shining and there was not a cloud in sight so we all enjoyed a lovely picnic and ran off any post-SAT stresses! Thank you to Mrs Wilding for the ice lollies, Mrs Pilgrim for joining us and Mrs Webster and Izzy for coming down to provide the class with additional refreshments!
